Per Sky Sports, Leicester are interested in appointing Carsley, with van Nistelrooy poised to leave the club at the end of the season. He has overseen a dire run of form that has seen the Foxes drop into the Championship with a whimper; they have taken just 18 points from 33 games.

Van Nistelrooy was appointed in November, replacing Steve Cooper, and signed a two-and-a-half-year deal upon his arrival but is now almost certain to be axed. Leicester are making plans to appoint a replacement and are also interested in Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl and former Southampton boss Russell Martin. Carsley, of course, managed England for six games in an interim role after Gareth Southgate resigned.
DID YOU KNOW?
Leicester may find it difficult to sack van Nistelrooy due to the compensation he would be due. The club could struggle to meet their PSR obligations if they do have to pay him off, and the former Manchester United striker is not willing to walk away without being compensated. During his 20 games in charge, the Dutchman's side took just eight points.
