West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian has vowed to continue working hard as he looks to displace Joe Hart as the club’s number one stopper.
With Hart ineligible to face his parent club Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, Adrian was given the chance to make his first Premier League appearance of the season.
The Spaniard was part of a much-improved performance from the Hammers as he made a string of impressive saves in the 2-1 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
Hart is being tipped to earn a recall for next weekend’s clash with Chelsea, but Adrian has insisted that he will ‘train hard every day’ in a bid to give West Ham boss David Moyes ‘a headache’ when it comes to choosing his starting goalkeeper.
Adrian told West Ham’s official website:
“Obviously, from a personal point of view I try to give my best every time I play. The manager knows that I train hard every day, so I try to give him a headache for the next few games to fight for the number one position.
“This was my first game in the Premier League this season, and I have to keep working [for more opportunities].”
Adrian, 30, joined West Ham from Real Betis in the summer of 2013, and has made 126 appearances for the Hammers in all competitions.
Hart has been the undisputed number one for the capital club this term, but his performances have been heavily criticised in recent weeks.
