The Liverpool Echo report that former Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta has emerged as a new content for the Toffees’ vacant managerial role, and fans of the Merseyside outfit have been quick to react on Twitter.
The Spaniard, who made 209 appearances for Everton during a six-and-a-half year spell with the Premier League side, is currently working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City.
The Liverpool Echo say that the 37-year-old is one of the names being discussed at boardroom level at Goodison Park though, and he is seen as a ‘serious contender’.
Given he has no managerial experience his appointment would have to be seen as a risk. However, plenty of supporters who have had their say seem content at the possibility of him taking charge, with one even saying he would be a better fit than Carlo Ancelotti, who The Telegraph report is the first-choice option.
However, not every fan is happy about Arteta being named as Marco Silva’s successor, and rightly so given their current predicament and his lack of experience of being the main man.
One individual chose to fire a dig at chairman Bill Kenwright and suggested that the Spaniard would be a cheap alternative, while another suggested that if it comes down to a straight choice between the 37-year-old and Ancelotti, the board would be mad not to select the latter.
