Sky Sports have reported that Burnley are set to make an improved offer of £18m for West Brom striker Jay Rodriguez, but Wolves must hijack the deal to secure their perfect front-man.
What’s the story?
Burnley have been heavily linked with their former striker this summer and had a bid of £16m rejected at the start of August, according to The Telegraph. Rodriguez has played the full 90 minutes in both of West Brom’s Championship games so far this season but may be set for a return to the Premier League.
The 29-year-old made 37 appearances in the Premier League last season, netting seven goals and providing one assist as the Baggies finished bottom of the league.
Rodriguez originally left Burnley to join Southampton in 2012 after coming through the Clarets’ youth system and scoring 41 goals in 128 games for the first team.
Striker-hunt
Prem new boys Wolves have shocked the footballing world on more than one occasion this summer by completing deals for big names from some of the most prestigious clubs in Europe. In terms of strikers they have already signed former loanee Leo Bonatini and Raul Jimenez on loan from Benfica.
However, our recent poll revealed that 94% of Wolves fans wanted the club to sign another striker before the window shuts and a deal for Rodriguez could be perfect.
The current West Brom man has the pace to get in behind defences whilst also offering the creativity to create chances for others around him. He also has the Premier League experience that Wolves are currently lacking.
